Molly McPherson, a Girl Scout from Boulder Colorado
I am a senior in a high school in Boulder, Colorado and in Girl Scouts. Saving the World One Bottle At A Time is my Gold Award Project, which is a project through Girl Scouts that teaches leadership and responsibility. The Gold Award Project must involve a sustainability aspect, so I was inspired to spread the word of how dangerous non-reusable bottles are, especially because they are a staple in many people’s lives. When I was a Cadet in Girl Scouts, my troop instigated a community event for our Silver Award roject.
At the event which we called Save The Oceans, we focused on the harmfulness of plastic bags, and handed out reusable bags to promote sustainability. We educated the community about the effects of plastic bag use, and through our research became knowledgeable about the subject. I want to take on this issue on a larger scale, and so I decided to center my Gold Award Project around educating people on an international and global level. This may be a colossal problem that will never be completely solved, but my hope is to advocate, educate, and inform in order to make a positive impact on the environment. I have a huge motivation to help make a healthier environment around the world, and I will not stop until I have made a difference!
I have given several presentations to Elementary, Middle, and High school classes about these terrible plastic water bottles. Please contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any number of people who would like to hear a presentation about why we need to reduce our use of plastic water bottles!
I was recognized in the local Boulder newspaper for completing the Girl Scout Gold Award with this project. I was among some really inspiring girls doing incredible projects to help save the world too. Check out the article here.
I am a brand ambassador for Polar Bottles. I am recognized on their website. Check that out here.
